So today was “Dress Like a Pirate Day” at Krispy Kreme. So if you dressed up, you got a free box of donuts. Since I teach class at 9:30 I figured I’d grab donuts for my class.
I struggled with that bow for a good hour until I liked it.
I kind of made this on a whim, so I don’t have any good pictures along the way. But the basics of what I did are after the break!
So I just got back from Dragon*Con and I’m a little behind on costume updates.
I also went as Misty from Pokemon and my fiance went as Ash, but here I’m just going to talk about how I made the Misty Wig. It was surprisingly simple and I really love how it came out!
I’m really quite happy with how it came out and I’m surprised that I don’t look ridiculously silly with orange hair.

DJ Pony is coming along and I’ve gotten the wing done, with some help from my super awesome hairdresser.
Basically, I bought a wig, sewed in some wefts, and then was like, “I need help cutting it! I’m afraid!” and here we have DJ Pony =)

Hey! Guess what – It’s cosplay season again! I’ve been hard at work getting pieces together.
After cosplaying Fang (which was awesome) I decided that I wanted a comfy costume. The kind of costume that would allow me navigate the dealer halls, and use the bathroom, and sit in panels without too much hassle. So I’m going to DJ pony. I’m so excited to go punk and have teal hair!
Most of DJ’s costume I bought. So crafting was pretty minimal. I’ll post a list of what I bought once I get decide exactly what pieces I’m using for her.
There are a few pieces though need some time. I need to remake pony ears, get/make a punk white t-shirt with a cutie mark, and finagle a wig. So here’s how to take a white t-shirt and destroy to to look pretty edgy and cool and what I’d consider “punk”.
After I hacked up the shirt and painted the music note on it.
Wow – it’s been a while. I was so busy crafting, and finished like … right before I left to go home for two weeks and as soon as I came back I was sick and then fell behind with everything!
So – I know it’s been two months but here I am – back now.
I love fantasy. Like *LOVE LOVE*. My dad really loves history. Like *LOVE LOVE*. He also collects antique clocks as a hobby. (I come from a strange family …). We’ve even sailed tall ships together through crazy storms! So I thought it would be really awesome to combine both of our loves in this clock. The clock face is an old world map and I love the numbers I got because they look like a compass. The dragon is supposed to be my representation of the mythical sea dragons supposedly living in depths of the ocean waiting for helpless ships to pass by. So here is the big sea dragon attacking a little ship.
I don’t have a tutorial for this so I’ll just briefly explain how I put this together with some more details after the break =) It’s made with Premo Sculptey and Sculptey-III clay.

I’ll be updating every now and then but I’ll be primarily working on Christmas/Chanukah presents for family and such. And obviously I can’t post my work in progress on them too early. =)
Anyway – I’ve been tossing around some costuming ideas for the future so hopefully here’s what’s to come in while.
I’ll still (hopefully) be posting little projects … like that pair of jeans I need to patch and random nail-art when I’m bored.

More Short Term Goals:
I’m working on fire faerie costume for the Ren Faire in April. I bought a pattern so it’s a matter of learning how to put it together.
I really want to go as Vanellope Von Schweetz from Wreck it Ralph (because she’s awesome!!) for a con.
Also, I really want to go as DJ pony =) I think she’d be a lot of fun to cosplay.
The first is the pattern I’ll be using for the fire faerie (A). I think it’ll be fun =)
Second is Vanellope. I think doing all the candy hair accessories would be awesome too.
Third is DJ pony =)
I’m going as Twilight for Halloween. I was really considering DJ Pony because the teal hair would be so much fun! but I didn’t want to have to buy another wig, and make another set of ears … so I’m going as Twilight. I don’t want to wear a huge prom dress in lab (chemicals yeesh) so I’m going as more casual/professional Twilight.
Maybe I’ll carry around an article from Science and ask people if they’ve read the latest yet. Or who knows, maybe I talk about the wonders and complexities of magic and why it’s important to not make assumptions without proper testing.
It’s great because I work in a lab =)
This costume was really easy to put together since I didn’t sew or make any of it! (except for said ears … and the cutie mark) Yay =)

I got a little bit more intense for how to put in Twilight’s highlights. Before I had just ordered some hair extensions and clipped them in but they weren’t as awesome as I had hoped. I mainly didn’t like that I couldn’t get the extensions to lie flat, they weren’t as *bamph* as I had hoped they would be, and it was obvious where I had clipped them in. Although I had these problems, if you’re looking for a really cheap and easy way to use the clip in extensions you should go for here.

Apparently, Twilight’s hair is drawn differently throughout the season. So I just put the extensions in the side I liked in the order I liked them =)
I got the wig for Twilight and it was curly. Since I was originally doing a formal cosplay, and a lot of girls curl their hair, I decided to leave it but now I’m being casual Twilight and need/want her hair to be straight.

This is a quick project I worked on a while ago, so I have no “in progress” pictures. Regardless, it’ll hopefully give you a cool idea and it’s super easy to do!

Nail Polish is great because it sticks to plastic really well =) I painted a phone with nail polish and it didn’t come off even after 3 or 4 years of rubbing around in my pocket and purse.
What to do after the break =) This is a lot cheaper if you already have nail polish and gems lying around like I do.
